Six Sentence Sunday - Willow in the Desert

There was always hope.
Someone had once been stupid enough to calculate the odds of any one person surviving the first two years of the invasion.  Then he’d been even dumber and told those odds to Arner.  The number had been so astronomical as to be impossible.  And the odds of a group consisting of one adult and three children, one still in her diapers?
Arner had been too busy beating the shit out of the mathematician to find that out.

First Four Friday – Lilith

Chapter 29

Alex came to Colwyn’s closed bedroom door at four in the morning.  With a mixture of gratitude and apprehension, she saw that his light shone under the door.  She raised her hand and hesitated.  Though she felt sure she’d come to terms with what she must do, it didn’t make it any easier.  If she hadn’t been damned before, she surely would be in the next few minutes.

Six Sentence Sunday – The Willow and the Stone

As if to underscore his words, a loud buzz shattered the background singing of insects and frogs.  Renee and Adam separated in a heartbeat and shot to their feet heedless of their nudity in the cold air.
"Where?" she whispered, straining to see in the gloom.
"Outside, I think.  Stay here."  She heard him search his sleeping bag.

First Four Friday – Willow in the Desert

 Chapter 15

The truck containing Carli, Gordon, and their charges roared down the street.  It drove straight to the base’s main administration building located dead center of the base.  The vehicle squalled to a stop, making the people in the back lurch.  Carli immediately called back to Gordon.
“You’re in command of this group now, Gordon.”

Six Sentence Sunday - Lilith's Return

Despite the pull of the demi-demoness’ energy, Lilith gave her only the briefest of looks because she recognized the other three at the table, people she had encountered during her last time on Earth.  The two men, halflings, had dared to defy her then though no man could stand against her and reasonably expect to live.  But even they were not the ones who made her heart pound with excitement and hatred.  Not with the blond bitch sitting right there.
It was her.  Alex Williams.

First Four Friday - The Willow and the Stone

Chapter 25

Leo stepped out of the ranch house, a frown creasing his strong features.  He looked up at the clouding sky as if searching the heavens for answers.
A week had passed since he’d last made contact with Willow.  Desperation chilled his heart, and dark anger at himself flooded his spirit.

Six Sentence Sunday – Lilith

“Who else here knows I’ve got two of the demonkind working with me?”
He looked around before answering as if afraid they’d be overheard.  “I’ve told no one.  If any of the Segreto knew, they’d probably destroy both of us along with them.”
Alex fell quiet for a moment, summoning her courage.  “Then I have a personal request.”

First Four Friday – Lilith’s Return

Colwyn supported Alex as much as she would allow him to as she staggered from the bathroom.  The woman was sometimes unbearably stubborn, but he grinned like an idiot.  So did she.

Jacob had walked to a nearby clothing store to buy Alex some clothes to replace the bloody garments she wore.
