First Four Friday – Lilith’s Return

 Chapter 10

Lena shook all over, unable to shut out the sound of the man’s dying moans as Satrina fed on him in another room.  She struggled with the ethical question of letting a succubus kill a Satan worshipper, one her grandmother had assured her had been party to child abuse and rapes.  Sure, a man like that deserved justice, maybe even death.  However, having to listen to him being killed screwed with her conscience.

Six Sentence Sunday – Willow in the Desert

Jon crawled to the corner where a nest of blankets waited for him.  They smelled musty and stank of his sweat, sweat that came from lying in the vault still hot from the day’s high temperatures and from the nightmares that made him thrash these last three nights.  He snuggled in, trying not to think about his friends, his parents, of anyone because that brought the crushing loneliness and fear too close.  Instead he whispered, “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep…”
He recited the prayer, finding little comfort in the morbid words that had been taught to him with no thought as to what a child might feel saying such things.  “…and if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”

First Four Friday – Lilith

 Chapter 23

Alex followed her twitching nose to the kitchen where mouth-watering smells enticed.  Despite her growling stomach, slavering mouth, and flaring nostrils that tried to coax her legs to hurry-hurry, she moved down the wide stairs with caution.  She wasn’t supposed to be out of bed yet.  That’s what Dr. Thompson kept saying anyway.

Six Sentence Sunday – The Willow and the Stone

Now that she knew how the gun recoiled, Renee was ready to roll.  In a deafening volley, she sent bullets plowing through the row of cans.  She cleaned off the log of all but one.  As the last echo of gunfire died off, she grinned up at Adam’s stunned face.
"Damn," he mumbled.  "Maybe you should be the one giving the lessons.”

First Five Friday – Willow in the Desert

 Chapter 13

Carli and the group tromped down the highway, their footfalls thudding through the night.  They all wore night vision goggles and held their guns at the ready.  Using the roads was dangerous business, because so many humans liked to keep to them.  Any hint of their former civilization seemed to draw people, as if by using old highways and living in former cities could bring back the past.  That tendency was dangerous.

Available from Amazon, Barnes &Noble, and Smashwords.  Available in paperback too.

First Four Friday - The Willow and the Stone

Chapter 23

            Renee killed Mildred.
She’d fought with all her conscience to stay as far away as the cell allowed.  Unfortunately, she too easily remembered the sound of potent blood swishing through fat veins and its intoxicating scent.  Mildred's constant whining about being hungry and cold couldn't drown out the memory of that beguiling sound and smell.

Six Sentence Sunday - Lilith's Return (WIP)

“The nail.”  Alex actually looked pleased, as if happy she could drag Lena into the fight once more.
She referred to the nail they had used to defeat Lilith last time, the one Lena had infused with fire and strength hours after she’d been conceived.  It had been taken from the coffin of a previous Segreto warrior, the one who had discovered that woman’s capacity for creation was the key to exiling Lilith to the realm between Heaven and Earth.  Alex had kept it for all these years.  She carefully hoarded as a relic and tool for the next person tasked with keeping the world safe from the demoness.

Releasing in June.

First Five Friday – Lilith’s Return (WIP)

Chapter 9

One of the few Segreto survivors was a young paramedic named Evan Morel.  No one would ever believe the blond, clean-cut, twenty-three-year-old kid was half demon.  He looked like the proverbial boy-next-door, his blue eyes radiating innocence.
He treated Alex's many wounds in a small motel in Kinston, where the Lashams had fled.  He never mentioned the hospital, though it was painfully clear to anyone with eyesight that Alex needed to be in a full medical facility.
