Sunday's Serving - Lilith

Only one door besides the one on the end interrupted the pure white walls.  Drawing abreast of it, a small plate identified the room it opened into:  Embalming.
Alex hesitated.  Curiosity won out, and she opened the door and peered in.  Cabinets lined the walls, but what caught her eye was the guttered metal table in the middle of the room.
It was completely utilitarian, devoid of softness or warmth.  It stood there, indifferent to the parade of bodies that must have lain on its surface and the many more that would come.
It seemed to say, I know nothing of man’s hopes and fears of eternity.  Hell may only be a lie, a tool of your religions to make you do as they wish.  Or it may be divine retribution.  Heaven may be a dream of those terrified of dissolution. Or it may be a real reward.  All I guarantee is that one day you’ll lie right here naked and cold, and the once living warmth of your fluids will be drained from your body.  That day might be soon.  It might be today.  Climb on up, Alex.  Lie down and have a peek into your future.

Six Sentence Sunday – Willow in the Desert

“I’m glad you don’t think of us civilians as a burden,” Carli grinned.
Arner grinned back at her.  “You both are badasses with a capital bad.  Because of you, six Pyramids are now big, lifeless relics.  I’d take you over a full platoon any day.”
Such praise from Arner was like meeting Santa in person.

Six Sentence Sunday – The Willow and the Stone

Lightning flashed blinding white.  The alien fell and blanketed her with its insectoid body. Her hypnosis broke, and Renee shrieked.  She kicked and clawed at the hard flesh of the monster, expecting to feel the needle prick of its siphon in her neck at any moment.  Her maddened screams echoed throughout the warehouse.  She scrabbled and fought to escape the loathsome creature that embraced her.

Six Sentence Sunday - Lilith's Return

She’d tried to put distance between herself and the bloody life that was part and parcel of being a member of the Segreto.  Lena didn’t want to be a part of that brutal existence, of endlessly tracking evil down and destroying it.  Even if one didn’t get killed, the legal ramifications of being caught destroying demonkind were huge.  Alex’s ability to sense those of demon blood was rare in full humans.  The typical person had no clue such beings were in their midst, and law enforcement would see the Segreto’s holy war as murder of innocents.
Not to mention demonkind fought back and were just as happy to kill the Segreto off in grisly ways.

First Four Friday - The Willow and the Stone

Chapter 27

Deep shadows filled the halls of the Rock.  Night had fallen outside, and all save but one of the inhabitants slept.
Renee surveyed her surroundings, clear now that the glare of the lamps had been turned down.  Her feet hung well off the end of the twin beds she'd pushed together.

Six Sentence Sunday – Lilith

Cold suddenly knifed through Alex’s heart.  My time is almost up, she thought and fought off a shudder.  “Now I have to scout each location out in person.  When I find the bitch, the fireworks start.”

Jacob picked at his fingernails.  “How soon do we do this?”
